Application of Incineration Bottom Ash to Replace Fine Aggregates in Asphalt Concrete

Incineration bottom ash (IBA) is commonly reutilized in the field of civil engineering. However, few applications have applied IBA in asphalt concrete (AC). To understand the effects of IBA replacement on the properties of AC and to expand the engineering applications of IBA, 0, 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100% of the natural aggregates in AC were replaced with IBA. The test results indicate that the asphalt binder content increased with the increasing percentage of IBA replacement. The highest tensile strength ratios (TSRs) were observed for AC specimens with 60 and 40% IBA replacement, implying that the water resistance of the AC with IBA replacement was effectively improved.
