The adsorption properties of β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and γ-cyclodextrin (γ-CD) on
two pesticides, Chlorpyrifos and Methomyl, were studied by ultraviolet visable spectroscopy. The experimental results showed that the molar adsorption efficiencies of equimolar β-CD on pesticides Chlorpyrifos and Methomyl were 0.8452 and 0.7373, while the adsorption efficiencies of equimolar γ-CD on pesticides Chlorpyrifos and Methomyl were 0.8514 and 0.7427, respectively. There were no sharp distinction between the adsorption efficiencies of
β-CD and γ-CD on them. However, pesticide residues of chlorpyrifos and methomyl in food, fruits and vegetables could be effectively removed by β-CD or γ-CD. Considering the economic factors, β-CD is the preferred and convenient pesticide remover.
