Skeleton Extraction Algorithm of Chinese Characters in Picture

Abstract

This paper proposes a novel skeleton extraction algorithm of Chinese characters in picture. In the algorithm, we extract the strokes of horizontal (vertical) strokes firstly based on the definitions. And then, we get the intersection points among the stroke skeletons by extending the contour line. Finally, we thin other strokes based on the maximum inscribed rectangle discriminant and thinning algorithm. And the whole skeleton of Chinese characters is extracted.
