Synthesis and Antibacterial Activity of n-Octylα-Cyanoacrylate Medical Adhesives
Abstract
To find a better synthesis way, n-octyl α-cyanoacrylate was synthesize by a modified Knoevenagal Condensation which means composite additives were used and formaldehyde solution was replaced by paraformaldehyde in the absence of solvent. The synthesized n - octyl α - cyanoacrylate was characterized by Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Gas Chromatography (GC). The antibacterial experiment was also conducted to examine the antimicrobial properties. And the characterization results show that n-octyl α-cyanoacrylate still showed better antibacterial activity at lower concentration, and could maintain a certain antibacterial effect for a long time (72 h), which means n-octyl α-cyanoacrylate could show a well bacteriostatic ability with a lower concentration by the way.
