Response of Hydrodynamic Characteristics to Seabed Erosion and Deposition in Yellow River Delta Area
Abstract
The Yellow River carries large amount of sediment into the sea, of which 70%-80% will deposit at the offshore of the Yellow River Delta. Under the hydrodynamic forces, such as waves, tides and currents, seabed may be eroded or deposited in varying degree. But, the current situation of seabed erosion and deposition in Yellow River delta is not yet clear. In this study, a long-term observation was carried out in Yellow River delta from 9th, December, 2014 to 10th February, 2015. We analyzed the effects of hydrodynamic forces, including waves, tide and currents, on the process of seabed erosion and deposition from the monitoring data. Results showed that the degree of seabed erosion and deposition are closely related to the velocity of underflow, wave height and water depth, etc.
