Abstract

With the help of a self-developed calculation program named CAESSC 1.0, the performances of the adiabatic compressed air energy storage system under different configurations were evaluated in this paper. And the rules stipulating how those main factors influence the energy storage efficiency of the system were summarized. Results show that the methods of gas storage and heat transfer affect the efficiency most obviously. When the gas storage pressure is 10 MPa, using the constant pressure method of gas storage can avoid about 10% of throttling loss (compared with the constant volume method), and the energy storage density may increase by 30% at least. With the adiabatic method of heat transfer, the energy storage efficiency of the system is at its peak value of 76%, and this efficiency is about 10% higher than the one of the system with the polytropic method.
