Research on the Mistranslation of Ancient Chinese Classics into Modern Chinese from the Perspective of Intralingual Translation
Abstract
Translating Chinese classics into foreign languages is of vital importance for Chinese culture to be disseminated to the world. As the foundation of such translation, translation of ancient Chinese classics into modern Chinese belongs to intralingual translation and therefore should follow certain translation standards and procedures. From the perspective of intralingual translation, this paper analyzes mistranslation problems incurred in the translation of some ancient Chinese classics such as Book of the Later Han to words like sanxiang. In this way the significance of understanding, expressing, and text-proofing in the course of translation of ancient Chinese classics into modern Chinese is illustrated.
