The Numerical Simulation of Forming for Continuous Helical Baffles

Abstract


The performance of helical baffle heat exchanger is excellent, but the manufacturing process of continuous helical baffle is difficulties. In this paper, the method of multi-point forming (MPF) is proposed to make continuous helical baffle. Extensive numerical simulations of the processes for helical baffle plates forming were carried out by dynamic explicit finite element analysis. The stress, strain and springback characteristic in the forming process were investigated. The influence factors of indentation and wrinkling such as the thickness of plate, the pitch of helical baffle and the inside diameter of helical baffle were studied in this paper. The method of decreasing defects has proposed.
