Research on Natural Environment Risk in China

Chang LIU

Abstract

China is a country with a vast territory and complex geographical-climatic conditions. As a result, various kinds of natural disasters have occurred frequently in China since ancient times. What’s more, during the period of rapid economic development, over consumption of resources and extensive management makes the environmental problems increasingly serious. Natural environment risk has become one of the most important issue of economic and social development in China. Once the risk event occurs, it often affects the economic and social development in large scales. Starting from the risk factor that effects the occurrence frequency and harm degree to a regional natural environment, we constructed the index system to evaluate the natural environment risk. By means of factor analysis from multivariate statistical analysis, we evaluate the risk of natural environment in some regions of China. We are aiming at increasing the understanding the status of China's regional natural environment risk, and assisting the government to carry out local risk management of natural environment.
