Comparison of Filtering Method for Surface Roughness Evaluation in Ultra-precision Cutting of SiCp/Al Composites
Abstract
The machined surface topography greatly influences the mechanical performance of workpiece. There exist many defects such as pits and scratches on machined surface in ultra-precision cutting of SiCp/Al composites. The existence of defects leads to the distortion of reference surface. It is necessary to investigate the filtering method of the machined surface in ultra-precision cutting of SiCp/Al composites. Firstly the machined surface of SiCp/Al composites is measured by confocal microscope. Then the Gaussian filtering method and robust Gaussian filtering method are used to construct the reference surface. The result shows that the robust Gaussian method is better for achieving the appropriate roughness data.
