Abstract

The subharmonic bifurcation and chaotic motions of a fully simply supported plate with large deflection, subjected to subsonic flow and transverse distributed uniform load are investigated in this paper. The chaotic motions of the system arising from the intersection of the stable and unstable manifolds of the homoclinic orbit are studied by means of the Melnikov method, and the threshold of the chaotic motion is given. The subharmonic bifurcation of the system is studied with the subharmonic Melnikov method; the parameter condition of the subharmonic bifurcation is obtained. It is proved that the system can be in chaotically excited through infinite subharmonic bifurcations. Numerical simulations are given, which verify the analytical results.
