Study of the NURBS Geometric Description Method on the Mold Cavity Surface

Abstract

The mold cavity is usually linked by various curved surfaces smoothly and gradually. At present descriptive methods for mold cavity surface are grid method, algebraic method and NURBS (Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline) method. This paper analyzes the characteristics of NURBS surface and presents the calculating method of the NURBS description of the mold cavity. Research shows that it is the most effective to describe the mold cavities surface when free-form surfaces and analytical surfaces coexist on the surface of mold cavities.
