DC Motors Speed Control

Yan-yan JI, Michael HVIDSTEN

Abstract

A DC motor is a device that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy. DC motors are inherently high-speed and low-torque. In this paper, we will use gears to solve the problem of lowering the speed and increasing the torque provided by the motor. We will also control the speed of the motor by using a technique called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) which is one of the most effective circuits to manage the speed of DC motor with the help of pulse width modulation.
