Synthesis and properties of 1â€[(2â€methylâ€5â€phenyl)â€3â€thienyl]â€2†[(2â€methylâ€5â€acetylenyl)â€3â€thienyl] perfluorocyclopentene

Abstract

An unsymmetrical photochromic diarylethene named 1â€[(2â€methylâ€5â€phenyl)â€3†thienyl]â€2â€[(2â€methylâ€5â€acetylenyl)â€3â€thienyl]perfluorocyclopentene (1o) was synthesized and its properties such as photochromism, fluorescence as well as reaction kinetics were investigated in detail. The dithienylethene has shown good photochromic behavior and fluorescent switches in solution.
