Abstract

Based on conventional data, hourly precipitation data, 1°×1° and 0.5°×0.5° NCEP reanalysis data, interpolation and smoothing filter are used to analyze the ability to reveal fields of potential height and kinetic energy using data of different resolutions. The main conclusions are as follows. Compared with 1°×1° NCEP reanalysis data, 0.5°×0.5° NCEP reanalysis data have obvious advantages in lower altitude region. That is to say, 0.5°×0.5° NCEP reanalysis data contain more information about the systems of mesoâ€Î± scale. But the disadvantages are obvious as well. 0.5°×0.5° NCEP reanalysis data has larger error in higher altitude region due to waves with wavelength of two times lattice distance.
