The Analysis of the Electoral College: An Enduring but Controversial Part of the American Political System

Abstract

The Electoral College, as the essence of The Framers of the Constitution in 1787, has a positive influence on the early practice of America. But as the emergence of the two-party system and a two hundred years’ evolution, the Electoral College now operated quite differently from how the founding fathers envisaged it. Although with plenty of controversy and flaws, it still remains as an essential mechanism for the presidential elections. This paper analyses the history and development of the Electoral College and the rationality for its long existence.
